During Naru and Keitaro's escapades across Japan, they ran into a girl called Mutsumi Otohime. They helped her travel around because she is prone to fainting and could expire at any moment. After the get her home, Mutsumi gives them a present, which turns out to be a pet turtle, Tama Chan! |

In the picture to the left is Tama Chan the Hot Springs Turtle and Kuro the cat (more on Kuro is available here). Tama Chan is, like I said, a Hot Springs Turtle. It enjoys baths in hot springs, making the Hinata House the ideal place for it to live (Hinata House has an open air hot spring). Tama Chan is a very talented turtle. She has been known to fly (all the time actually), utter the cry "Myuh!" (all the time too), drink beer, drink coffee and even write! |
Why a turtle you ask? Truth be told, I don't really know why Ken Akamatsu used turtles so much throughout the series. During the series, there is evidence of an ancient turtle civilization all over the world that Seta and Keitaro usually end up discovering. Tama Chan is just an overall amazing turtle ^^, gotta lover her! |
